MINDFULNESS EXPLAINED IN ELEVEN WORDS …
Using concentration, clarity and equanimity skills to make life more fulfilling.
Every moment in time is a gift; that’s why it’s called the present. In short, mindfulness helps one fill their mind with the present, instead of all the checklists, deadline, woulda – coulda – shouldas.
All Dana Point Mindfulness techniques are practical, portable and Use them in a quiet meditation room with eyes closed or wide open in a traffic jam. You can also use our handy 10-second “microhits” of mindful awareness to center yourself on the spot.
No quiet rooms, electronics, chemicals or special equipment required. Our teaching sessions can be accessed in person or connect by phone, Skype, Zoom or FaceTime from anywhere. Each session includes print and downloadable support literature.
NOTE: We teach traditional vipassana meditation and Unified Mindfulness techniques in easy-to-learn formats. We do not promote or endorse any religious beliefs.

HOW TO CREATE HAPPINESS
Happiness is a pre-existing condition.
Happiness is more than an occasional mood. It’s a systematic, practical, flexible and teachable skill endorsed by 21st-century neuroscience and world contemplative traditions including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sufism, and Hinduism. Meditate consistently and watch mindful awareness improve your quality of life.
Three core happiness skills:
Concentration Power
Concentration Power
is the ability to focus your attention on whatever you choose. Your attention becomes so pleasantly absorbed that distractions slip away. Concentration is the perfect alternative medicine for the anxious noise of our 24/7 sound-byte world.
Sensory Clarity
Sensory Clarity
fine-tunes your brain to physical and emotional sensations you have never experienced. Like a microscope that reveals what naked eyes cannot see, clarity tracks changing details in mind-body reality. The more you see, hear and feel, the more you enjoy mindfulness.
Equanimity
Equanimity
Going with the flow of sensations without resistance reduces suffering. You enjoy pleasures without clinging to them. You allow discomforts to arise and pass away without aggravation. Equanimity prevents an inappropriate reaction to whatever happens.

Message from Dr. Hoffman
Unfortunately, my high school didn’t have a Happiness 101 class, and I was a ‘60s flower child fascinated by New Age optimism. I read Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi, drank Peruvian jungle potions, partied in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park with thousands of other hippies, repeated power mantras and once took antidepressants for a chemical imbalance I didn’t even have. I practiced Transcendental Meditation daily for 22 years but never stopped looking for next new consciousness-expanding practice. In 1992 I heard mindfulness teacher Shinzen Young on KPFK – FM radio. He said learning to focus precise attention on the flowing quantum nature of sensory experiences can lead to enlightenment. Bingo! Science, spirituality, happiness all wrapped up in mindfulness meditation without a religious hangover.
Now I teach mindfulness meditation because it’s a scientifically-valid and personally-fulfilling practice for people willing to learn. The mindful path is a marathon, not a sprint. It starts to unfold out in front of you, and the more you practice, the better it gets.
